Rustic Log Furniture
In my youth I would explore the old homesteads and barns of the
Finger Lakes area of upstate New York. Peeking through the windows
and cracks in the doors, I would marvel at the workmanship used and
how man and a tree could come together to create such beautiful
things.
When I grew older and gained the skills needed, I began to build my
own rustic log and old
barn wood tables and chairs and learned that sometimes it’s the wood
that tells you what to make. Those old barns of my youth were worn
smooth and rounded from use. With age they took on more of the
crooked natural shapes of trees they came from.
For over 35 years I have been making rustic log furniture, always trying to
maintain those
shapes and colors, using mortise and tenon construction for
strength and leaning more toward massive for appeal. During
years lived in the Alaskan bush, I learned to fashion everything
from doorknobs to cookie cutters, tables and chairs to toilet paper
holders.
I found furniture in the trees and tools in the
twigs. I enjoy creating the things I do and love to share them with people
who can see the beauty in rustic. My rustic log furniture and
designs are created to fit your
lodge, western or log home décor but whether you live in a cabin or
condo, I am sure you will find something pleasing to the eye and to
the touch. Slab wood tables and stools, barn wood furniture, rustic
log furniture from tables, benches, chairs to magazine racks we have
something for everyone.
For the past 20 years, I have called the Spooner Creek Ranch,
situated in the Bitterroot Valley south of Stevensville, Montana,
home. This 120 year old homestead is the perfect setting to pursue
my craft.
The old homesteads, surrounding mountains and rivers
hold an abundance of materials to work with including barn wood and
driftwood. Easy travel to the West Coast and the high desert of Eastern
Oregon gives me access to juniper, redwood, maple and myrtle
wood. Always keeping and eye out for that perfect slab or burl to
bring home, I often find walnut and willow to mix for contrast and beauty in my
rustic log furniture. |
